Overview

This interactive matrix compares the five major types of dementia (Alzheimer's Disease, Vascular Dementia, Lewy Body Dementia, Frontotemporal Dementia, and Mixed Dementia) across ten clinical dimensions: primary cause, first symptoms, progression pattern, memory impact, movement problems, hallucinations, age of onset, affected brain regions, genetic risk, and available treatments.

Cells are color-coded by characteristic strength so learners can quickly scan for distinctive features. Green indicates a strong or defining feature, yellow a moderate one, red a rare or absent feature, and gray a variable or context-dependent attribute.

How to Use

  • Explore mode: Click any cell to open a detail panel below the table with a longer explanation of that characteristic for the selected type. The table header and left column are sticky so they stay visible when scrolling.
  • Quiz mode: Read a short clinical scenario and pick the most likely dementia type. You get immediate feedback with an explanation. Five scenarios cover all five types. Getting all five correct triggers a celebration.
